Rounds 10 & 11 of the Pirelli GT4 America Championship delivered both highs and heartbreak for VPX Motorsport at Barber Motorsports Park.
The weekend began with unfinished business: Friday’s schedule opened with the make-up race from Road America, which had been postponed earlier in the season due to severe weather in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Starting 7th on the grid, Alex Ellis and Danny Dyszelski wasted no time in charging forward. With clean execution and smart racecraft, the pair crossed the finish line in 4th place overall and in class, earning valuable championship points and setting the tone for the weekend.
Saturday’s first official Barber race brought intense action and early promise. After beginning from P8, Ellis showcased precision and patience, climbing into the top five before handing the car over to Dyszelski. The young driver delivered an incredibly disciplined and strategic stint, holding station in a heated top-five battle while defending under constant pressure. But in a moment that was out of his control, Dyszelski was struck from behind, forcing the #77 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport off track. The heavy damage incurred on impact brought the race — and ultimately VPX Motorsport’s weekend — to an early end.
Though the result was disappointing, the weekend once again highlighted the strength and commitment of the entire VPX Motorsport organization. Every crew member demonstrated resilience and determination in the face of adversity, embodying the team’s never-give-up spirit.
“Setbacks are always tough, and we have had our fair share this year, but they show you who you are as a team,” said VPX Motorsport CEO Vince Partap. “I’m proud of how far we’ve come in a year and proud of our drivers and crew. We’ll regroup, reset, and come back stronger. As always the support from Porsche Motorsport NA and our partners has been incredible”
VPX Motorsport leaves Barber with valuable lessons, a renewed hunger, and the unwavering belief that brighter days are ahead as the championship season marches toward its conclusion. The team will be working hard to get back on track for the final round of Pirelli GT4 America at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, October 16-19.
